The name "crayfish" comes from the Old French word escrevisse (Modern French écrevisse) from Old Frankish *krebitja (cf. crab), from the same root as crawl. The word has been modified to "crayfish" by association with "fish" (folk etymology). Some kinds of crayfish are known locally as lobsters, crawdads, mudbugs, and yabbies.

Blue Moon Lobster (cherax sp.)
This is the spectacular blue morph of Cherax albidus, previously known as a blue Cherax destructor. In our opinion it is one of the most beautiful and most easily kept of crayfish. These grow fast and end up with the proportions of Maine lobsters. Males can reach 8 inches and weight up to a half pound. Lifespan in captivity is 5-6 years.
